Outbreaks of foodborne illness associated with fresh fruits and vegetables have raised concern from both consumers and growers. Two important aspects – recall parameters and traceability – factor into growers’ ability to be prepared if an outbreak and traceback investigation implicates their farm and related operations.

Recalls
A recall is the mechanism used to identify and recover potentially adulterated, misbranded and/or hazardous foods. Information is presented on the parameters that a recall mechanism triggers and provides resources for growers’ recall programs.

Traceability
Traceability refers to the ability and method used to track the flow of produce through the supply chain. This section presents the produce supply chain’s guidance, offers current research on the application in a pilot study and general resources for growers as they develop their own traceability programs.
